The Poyet Route is ideal for hiking and walking and a good part of the path runs alongside the River Vero.  After crossing a number of small gorges and fields of crops, the path continues to the Poyet ruins.  From here it is possible to take in magnificent views of some of the many vineyards and wineries of the D.O. Somontano, as well as the mountains and peaks of the Pyrenees and the Sierra de Guara.
Along the way you will pass old almond groves and vineyards that have long since been abandoned, old stone houses and small forests of holm and gall oak.
However, “El Chopar” is definitely one of the highlights of the route – a thicket of poplar, willow, ash and pine trees.  Due to the recent signposting of this route, this small wood has been reclaimed and is now a place of great value in terms of ecology as it gives shelter to an interesting variety of fauna that thrive in an aquatic environment.

LA RUTA EN IMÁGENES

Hikers in “El Chopar.”  Halfway through the 20th century a teacher from a school in Castillazuelo discovered this place and set about planting poplar and pine trees with her pupils, giving rise to a small thicket.

Walkers amongst the ruins of Poyet.  The place name comes from the Latin word podium (raised place.)  This area was once fortified to provide protection for the surrounding area and to defend nearby villages.
