SIERRA DE ESTADA ROUTE
Duration: 4 hours
Level: Easy
Departure point: End of the Calle de la Magdelena (next to the road from Estadilla and the Canal)
Climb: 351metres
Recommendations: Take drinking water.
 Wear suitable footwear.
                                  Stay on the marked path.
Avoid walking in the mountains on hot days.

This route starts and finishes in the same area of the village of Estada and is suitable for walkers or can be completed on mountain bike (except for the descent into the canyon to get to the Palacios cave which is only accessible on foot.)  To start, cross the road with caution to arrive at the path that runs alongside the Aragón and Cataluña canal.
Almond tree groves, fields of crops and old cattle grazing areas make up the first part of the route as it climbs steadily, reaching 700 metres above sea level at its highest point.  From here it starts to gently descend, snaking between olive groves and thickets.  The Chopos spring is located next to the final cultivated terraces and marks the start of the Hombreras path.
You will soon come across the Palacios cave, which sits above the canyon and boasts magnificent views of Somontano, the Sierra de Guara and a section of the Pyrenees.
Finally, the path winds along the side of the canyon and joins a track that returns back to Estada.
Should you wish to extend the route and walk further, the path branches off and connects with the GR 18 (towards Aguinaliú, Juseu and other villages of Ribagorza) and with the GR 45 (going to the Carrodilla chapel and Fonz amongst other places.)  The GR routes (Gran Recorridos, meaning long routes) are marked paths of over 50km in length, designed to be covered on foot over several days.  They are clearly marked with white and reds markers.
