El Torno de Buera is an old olive oil mill, which dates back to between the 17th and 18th century. This historical place displays a range of tools and equipment that have been used over centuries to extract olive oil – often described as ‘the golden liquid.’ The millstone, the old hand-operated press and the hydraulic press that replaced it at the beginning of the 20th century, have all been restored and can be seen in working order.

The centre also features details of the olive groves of Somontano, where more than 20 variety of olives are grown. Some of these varieties are indigenous to the area, and one or two are even specific to particular villages.
A visit to the mill provides an opportunity to travel back through the centuries and reveals a multitude of traditions, rites and beliefs linked to the olive, many of which are still important today.
