The village of Laluenga is home to a unique Visitor Centre relating to the spring-fed wells of Somontano. Several of these deep “pozo fuentes” are huge underground structures, which feature long staircases and vaulted chambers. They were constructed in order to reach the fresh spring water lying far below the surface. This small centre explains intricacies relating to the origin, structure and function of these hydraulic constructions.
After visiting the exhibition hall and the spectacular New Well on the same site, it is possible to discover more “cathedrals of water” across the region. The Route of the Somontano Spring Wells takes the visitor to the locations of Ponzano, Lapidiguera, Lagunarrota and Monesma de San Juan. |
