The Museum of the Claretian Martyrs is situated in Calle Conde in Barbastro and is dedicated to the memory of 51 Claretian Missionaries who belonged to a seminary in the local community. They were all executed in 1936 during the Spanish Civil War and were beatified by Pope John Paul II in 1992.
Some of the martyrs’ personal items are on display in the museum showcases. Perhaps the most poignant of these items are the final texts and letters of some of the men, written during their stay in prison prior to their execution. The remains of the men are held in the crypt of the building.
