Casa Fabián is a magnificent Somontano house dating back to the 17th century, which has recently been converted into an fascinating museum. It is located in the medieval district of the village of Alquézar.
By visiting the different areas such as the courtyard, the kitchen, the bedroom, the wine cellar and the stable block, it is possible to understand how the inhabitants of Alquézar once lived. This lifestyle was also typical of other villages in the Somontano region and was evident until halfway through the 20th century.
The variety of farming implements and the range of domestic objects on display, highlight the every day tasks undertaken in the fields and in the home. The harvest, the collection of grapes and olives and the use of plant fibres to insulate the roofs are all represented in the museum.
The foundations of the house hide the most impressive feature of the museum: an olive oil mill excavated from the limestone rock. |
