To
the south of the road N-240 the countryside is flat which favours the grain-producing
agriculture. When one looks up it is easy to see the flight of the ash-coloured
eagle, the kite or the vulture. Here, the blue Somontano sky invites tranquillity
and the chance to take one's time to visit its countryside and villages.
In the towns sat on plains delimited by the great rivers Cinca and Alcanadre
there are very few shallow springs. Ingenuity gave our ancestors the idea
for a strange construction which would facilitate access to the underground
springs: the spring wells. It consisted in the excavation in the rock of
a well with various galleries which could be entered by a flight of partly
vaulted stairs.
Perhaps the best known well is the Pozo Nuevo de Laluenga, but there are
many others throughout the land: Ponzano, Laperdiguera, Monesma, Lagunarrota...
From the highway N-240, and in at scarce
distance of Lascellas, it is the town of Ponzano, in which we will begin
this singular route. To the outskirts of the town it is the well source.
After the visit of this construction, we will continue the itinerary toward
the town Laluenga, taking the highway A-1225. Before arriving to her we
can carry out a brief stop in the hermitage of San Román of Ponzano,
place that ended up acquiring a great importance for the migrating shepherds
in the past.
The downtown of Laluenga deserves to be visited thoroughly, because he rely
on with numerous elements of interest, among those it highlights the Castro's
House, the spectacularNew
well and the Center of Interpretation of the Pozos
Fuente of the Somontano.
We will follow the route in address to Laperdiguera, where we will found
a new well source. In the square of the town we take the street where it
is the magnificent house Cavero. At the end of the same one, and something
remote of the town centre, we arrive to the well source, where an informative
panel explains the peculiarities of this construction.
The following destination is the population of Berbegal that, although it
doesn't possess well source, it requires of the visit of the town centre,
because he rely on with numerous elements of interest. Also from Berbegal
it can be carried out the Route
of the hermitage of Santa Águeda and the way to Santiago.
We continue the route in car, to go to the town of Lagunarrota, because
preserve another of the wells source, the same as Monesma of San Juan.
The final point of this journey can be the city of Barbastro, to which you
will arrive taking the highway A-1226.
But the lands of the south of the Somontano have other many elements of
interest that wait to be contemplated by the look of all those travellers
that look for the flavour of the authentic thing and of that ignored. Barbuñales,
Lacuadrada, Torres de Alcandre, Peralta de Alcofea, El Tormillo, Ilche,
Morilla, Permisán and Fornillos, are some of these places that deserve
to be visited slowly along the year.
